BENDIGO MILITARY MUSEUM

PRESERVING OUR PROUD HERITAGE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

The Bendigo Military Museum (BMM) is fully supported by the Bendigo District RSL Sub-Branch which utilises the Soldier’s Memorial Institute building. This iconic City of Greater Bendigo building is a significant landmark both for the residents of the region and for visitors. The BMM was redeveloped and officially re-opened on November 15th 2018, exactly 97 years after the initial opening of the building in 1921. It is one of the largest Memorial Museums in the country and is home to a broad range of military memorabilia that showcases the contributions of our local heroes in various conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

Bendigo Military Museum Launches Innovative Storyscape Experience

The Bendigo Military Museum is proud to announce Storyscape, an innovative new visitor experience that transforms the way people engage with military history through immersive audio storytelling and digital technology.

Within the museum galleries, visitors can explore a rich audio environment woven throughout the collection. Through carefully curated listening points and interactive storytelling experiences, veterans’ voices share memories of service, camaraderie, hardship, resilience, and life beyond conflict. These firsthand accounts add a deeply human dimension to the museum’s exhibits, creating meaningful connections between visitors and the stories behind the artefacts on display.

Extending beyond the museum walls, Storyscape incorporates an outdoor experience that transforms the surrounding precinct into part of the storytelling journey. Through location-based audio experiences, visitors can discover connections between Bendigo’s streets and spaces and the people, events, and histories that helped shape them. The outdoor component encourages audiences to experience history in a new and engaging way, blending place, memory, and sound.

Designed for visitors of all ages, Storyscape provides an accessible and engaging experience that brings history to life through the power of voice and shared memory.
